Bullets, Bombs and Unexploded Shells

You are never too far away from history around these parts. We ventured off for a walk to the area around Kingsdown, just west of Thanet by about 20 minutes. Instead of walking on TOP of the cliffs we walked at the bottom of the cliffs. Seems there used to be a lot of MOD training in this area so we were warned about the DANGER OF DEATH should we walk on the wrong side of the fence. And other signs said that YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

It put the fear of God into J-Rock though! He seemed to get his strength back at the end of the walk and was seen wreaking havoc on the street signs!

Trip to London tomorrow if the weather is good. We want to go the the Guard's Museum near Buckingham Palace as J-Rock's paternal grandfather was a Grenadier Guard. Grandad served under Monty and was in Italy. So some pretty gruesome campaigns.

In other news, Christmas is full steam ahead over here. Forget Hallowe'en (although it is getting to be a bit of a bigger deal) cuz Christmas is THE THING! Already, chocolates, cookies, decorations and aisles of cards lining the supermarket shelves.

And ahoy all you Palmerston Squares. A team of knitty parents is knitting up a blanket full 'o squares to be raffled off in the spring to raise money for the school. Out with your needles and start creating an 8 x 8 inch square in chunky weight yarn. The blanket has its very own blog - go see!

Bionic J-Rock! Evidently the 'UXO's (unexploded ordnance, for those not in the know!) scared him into superhuman form!! We need some of those signs over here, as the ones posted all along the spit are blithely ignored. "I haven't been blown up in 25 years of coming here so why SHOULDN'T I bring my grandkids?!", they say in righteous (wrong-eous?) indignation. I think fear and bionic strength might be the way to go...

I forgot the military redundancy quotient: UXO's are 'unexploded explosive ordnance' (Well what OTHER kind of ordnance would be unexploded??!!) The other M filled me in on that... he will be working for DND (now I know what MOD is!!) starting in Oct!!! We will have to practice our acronyms.

Yes, it is always sort of back of your mind that in these parts there was a war, with lots of bombs and things and many still unexploded. Actually, I think a lot of them ended up in the sea but sometimes one gets lucky and they end up on the beach with all the other 'garbage' expolded or not...Way to go Other M with job with DND! Enjoy!
